Michael Hartnady – On *sabbatical* to study for his PhD in Australia

October 13, 2016

Umvoto trainee Geologist Michael Hartnady is off to Australia to study for his PhD at Curtin University. This university is the largest and most culturally diverse university in Australia with the third largest international student population in the country.

The focus of Michael’s PhD will be on the crustal evolution of the Albany-Fraser Orogen in southwest Australia. Previously, Michael completed his MSc Hons in Geology at the University of Cape Town. He has worked on a number of projects for Umvoto throughout his undergraduate years, including the TMG Aquifer Feasibility Study and Pilot Project, the All Towns Reconciliation Strategy Continuation Study, the Oudtshoorn Groundwater Project (DAGEOS) and Danakil Potash Project being the most recent. His special interest is in field geology, structural and metamorphic terrains.

The entire Umvoto team wishes Michael all the best in this new adventure and look forward to regular updates on how life is treating him in Oz.
