Historic venue in the Southern Suburbs Muizenberg, with its exquisite coastal and mountain views and superb Edwardian and Victorian architecture, has been the resort choice of mining magnates (Cecil John Rhodes, Sir Abe Bailey), diplomats (Count Natale Labia) and authors (Rudyard Kipling).

Now a newly refurbished Southern Suburbs venue offers the style and glamour of yesteryear, plus all the modern facilities needed for a smoothly-run business or social event.

Elegance plus modern amenities

The double-storey building on the Muizenberg beachfront, named Aeolia, was originally designed in 1916 by the architectural office of Herbert Baker, Kendall and Morris. Purchased as its new company headquarters by earth sciences consultancy Umvoto Africa, it has been restored to its original glory.

The venue offers the nostalgia of yesterday with three original fireplaces, restored wooden floors and an elegant, carved Oregon wood stairway. This has been seamlessly integrated with a light-flooded central atrium, sliding glass doorways and the modern furniture of young local designers Pedersen + Lennard.

The ideal venue
The venue is suitable for either a corporate or private social function. Various rooms, or a combination, can be rented to suit staff and management training, a board meeting, or a cocktail party to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary.

Event spaces
Umvoto Africa provides several spaces to rent, meeting variable ambience and technological requirements.

WORKSHOP ROOM: This large room offers a projector, pull- down screen, additional, tables and seating for 20. The back of the room comprises large glass panels enabling the room to be flooded with light, or blinds can be drawn during projector use.

Training Room

BOARDROOM: The boardroom easily accommodates 12 people around a central table. A large screen, standing flip chart (is it set up so people just bring a laptop) makes it ideal for presentations.

Boardroom

LIBRARY: lined with books and periodicals, Umvoto Africa’s library functions as a great break-away / tea room. It combines a meeting table for discussion and brainstorming with a more relaxed lounge area with a fireplace for chilly winter days. It is one of the most brightly lit rooms in the building.

ATRIUM: the double volume, light-drenched central atrium is the perfect venue for a cocktail party or post-lecture drinks venue. It can be rented with the adjoining library space, or the exterior garden area.
GARDEN / COURTYARD: Perfect for an afternoon summer soiréee, this space includes garden benches and seats cleverly built into sheltering garden walls. A trickling fountain and ponds with goldfish enhance the ambience, while trees provide gentle shade.
