Masonwabe (Cand.Sci.Nat) has a BSc majoring in Geology and GIS & Applied Remote Sensing (2017) and a BSc (Hons) in Applied Remote Sensing and GIS (2018) from the University of Fort Hare. In 2019 Masonwabe joined Umvoto as an intern, where he gained experience in various departments until he became a Junior Geospatial Analyst in the Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing team in January 2020.
As a Junior Geospatial analyst, Masonwabe has been involved in the application of GIS and Remote Sensing in variety of tasks, including the digitisation and attribute capture of hard copy geology maps, mapping water quality and general maps. Masonwabe has worked in site suitability analysis, wetland mapping and classification, ecological monitoring using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and land-cover mapping. Masonwabe is currently strengthening his skills in data acquisition, data organisation, analysis, and display.
Recently, Masonwabe has applied the DRASTIC (Depth to water, net Recharge, Aquifer media, Soil media, Topography, Impact of vadose zone, and hydraulic Conductivity) model to assist aquifer vulnerability assessments and identification of potential Groundwater Protection Zones in various aquifers that Umvoto works on.
