Keanan is a Geologist, born and bred in Cape Town, who joined Umvoto as an Intern Geologist in 2020. He has a BSc (Hons) in Applied Geology from the University of the Western Cape and is currently completing his MSc in Applied Geology, focusing on constraining the stratigraphy and paleotectonic development of the Cango Caves Group using detrital zircon and whole-rock geochemistry. Keanan’s expertise includes practical experience and theoretical knowledge in petrography, geochemistry, geochronology, and geological field mapping.
During his time at Umvoto, Keanan has gained a wide range of experience in Geology and Hydrogeology. Having conducted borehole supervision using rotary mud, sonic, percussion, reverse circulation and core drilling techniques, he is proficient in borehole supervision for primary coastal aquifers as well as secondary fractured rock aquifers. He is also proficient in field water quality and level monitoring due to his involvement in large-scale groundwater projects for the City of Cape Town. Keanan is well-suited to his field and place of work, as he is an avid outdoorsman who is passionate about the Earth and consistently striving to make a positive impact on the environment.
