Umvoto welcomes a new Intern Hydrogeologist! Denim-Reece Southgate is an Honours graduate in Environmental and Geographical Sciences with a focus on water quality, environmental law, and policies regarding climate change. He holds an Undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from Rhodes University, majoring in Economics, Environmental Science and Geology and graduated with distinction. During his studies, he gained 4 weeks experience shadowing Executives at the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone, Western Cape. These Executives headed up Business Development, Infrastructure and Environment, Transaction and Investor Support, Developmental Programmes and Ease of doing Business.

Denim-Reece is currently assisting the data team with Water Level data analysis and preparation to add to the City of Cape Town Decision Support System (DSS) under the New Water Program for the Atlantis, Cape Flats, and Table Mountain Group (TMG) aquifer projects. He has also had some experience in the field with regards to water level monitoring for the Atlantis project.
He has travelled extensively abroad, experiencing different cultures while gaining valuable experience in teaching and working in a fast-paced and highly pressured environment. He enjoys spending his free time hiking and exploring the beautiful landscapes that our home, the Western Cape, has to offer.
He looks forward to expanding his horizons and to gain experience in the fields of water quality, contaminated land, and consulting.
