Andrea Hoppé is an intern in the Environmental team at Umvoto. She holds a BSc Honours degree in Biodiversity and Ecology from Stellenbosch University. Her Honours research focused on monitoring for alien macrofaunal species on sandy beaches in the Table Mountain National Park. This two-part study developed a climate-sensitive watchlist for alien species on South African sandy beaches and developed a monitoring protocol for sandy beaches in South African Marine Protected Areas.
Andrea has two years of experience as a Cape Fynbos Nature Guide at Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch. In this role, she conducted guided tours highlighting biodiversity conservation, fynbos ecology, and sustainable farming practices, while also developing a field guide manual that continues to be used for staff training.
With a strong passion for the ocean and sustainable development, Andrea finds inspiration in nature and people. Her upbringing near the Kruger National Park shaped her deep connection to the environment, which she explores through outdoor activities like freediving, camping, hiking, and travel. She is also a certified yoga instructor, combining her love for nature with mindfulness and well-being.
