Raees Stevens is a Junior Hydrogeologist at Umvoto, having recently completed his BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Water Science through the University of the Western Cape. After growing up and matriculating in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, he moved to the Western Cape to complete his post-matric studies.
His honours research project was titled “The Identification and Distribution of E. coli and Faecal Coliforms in the Atlantis Aquifer”. He created his own research project and was the first person to do a microbiological water quality analysis on the Atlantis Foundries Sand Mine site.
Raees is in the process of registering with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Candidate Natural Scientist in the Environmental Science Field of Practice.
Raees finds peace in nature and the ocean, which is how he knew this field is his passion. He has always been an athlete, playing soccer, cricket, rugby and athletics at competitive levels – favouring a more active lifestyle.
