Sebastian Stenzl is an MSc Environmental and Water Science candidate at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where he also completed his undergraduate and Honours degree. His thesis is focused on the presence and distribution of microplastics in a managed aquifer recharge (MAR) basin in Atlantis, a residential and industrial area located on the outskirts of Cape Town.
During his time at UWC, Sebastian assisted with several research projects around the Western Cape and Mpumalanga. He also worked with the South African Medical Research Council as part of the wastewater surveillance SARS-CoV-2 project around the City bowl. He has worked primarily along the West Coast in Atlantis and Langebaan, where he assisted in organising routine monitoring and sampling of both groundwater and surface water resources. Sebastian’s current tasks at Umvoto are focused on sampling and monitoring fieldwork.
Sebastian’s hobbies include travelling, hiking, and eating ice-cream. He is also a member of the Western Province Union Rugby Referee Society, with Saturdays spent on the field officiating local club games.
