Shaakirah is an Junior Geologist who has worked extensively on seismic hazard analysis of the Cape Fold Belt (in the Western Cape, South Africa) during her BSc (Hons) and MSc at the University of Cape Town. Shaakirah holds a BSc in both Geology and Physics, where she also worked on several projects in Nuclear Physics and improved her skills in report writing, data analysis and visualisation using Python. In her MSc she worked on measuring the Cango Fault scarp using MATLAB after the photogrammetric creation of Digital Elevation Models from the NGI aerial photographs. She also worked extensively with ArcGIS and QGIS to map the areas exhibiting recent reactivation along the fault.
Shaakirah has a keen interest in using her skills of geomorphology in the field of hydrogeology, hydrological monitoring and seismic hazard analyses at Umvoto.
